07.28 - Apple Advertising

The new advertising Apple is putting out for there Macs is just amazing. The two guys discussing the pros of a Mac in comparison with the cons of a PC is really smart on Apple’s part. However one of the seven commercials bothers me, the one about viruses. Apple states that there are no virus problems on a Mac computer… this isn’t all that true. There are no viruses on Macs because they have a much smaller install base. If you were making a virus and wanted to be well known, it is much better to produce something which most businesses and homes run on (I looked for exact numbers but I couldn’t find any good ones).

Also Apple has always been very non confrontational with ‘hackers’. Microsoft for years has been with its software and hardware stating there new releases cannot be compromised… look at the new operating system Vista they say that will be almost unbreakable. This makes people want to prove Microsoft being wrong and people can actually break the system. By Apple stating that they are literally invincible against viruses this might make people want to create the first big Mac virus. So by promoting a virus free system they might actually be inviting people to try and create one.

Will Apple be ready for a virus if one does hit? Especially if it is a big one? Well I think yes they will handle it no problem… But the negative media buzz resulting from a large virus could kill all this positive advertising Apple has now established, and hurt much more then the advertising is helping.

Wouldn’t you be pissed if you bought something that was supposedly virus free, only to have one hit your computer and wipe everything off of it… I know that this would seriously make me reconsider if I wanted to buy a new Mac next time I needed a new computer.

Advertising isn't going to provoke hackers to beat Mac's OS's...people have been trying forever and not 1 vulnerability has been found (to viruses). Worms are available for Mac's but those come from secondary apps not the OS. Windows is just one big sloppy chunk of code that has tons of holes. Mac viruses are possible but a commercial isn't going to put them in jeopardy.

Get someone to rip your EP and make a copy or two...this is the 21st century for god sakes. top

while the OS is better written the reason it is safer is because it is attacked less often

hackers use Macs in many cases to create Windows viruses... linux could say it is virus free and it OS is open, but it has nothing to do with the OS it is the supporting community who doesn't attack that system

In the past Mac has stated that there system has much less viruses then a PC , but these new commercials are more of a challenge

and as for no OS vulnerability being found that isn't all that true there are many really big ones which are compromising to the system... there have been many times which something has come out, however Mac unlike PC are much faster to repair these problems... to fix viruses was the entire purpose of the OS 10.4.7. switch which many people were against

the biggest problem is not the code its the quantity, and i believe this new advertising invites more hackers to attempt to break that program... and sooner or later Mac cannot hold its 'viruses free' slogan... which might really hurt business top

Phil, Jp, you guys are nerds. Jp rip that lone copy at your practice space and upload it to myspace, it's about time you and your band got yourselves on the map and not the one that leads to london, waterloo or guelph, the real map-- toronto, montreal, vancouver etc. top

Speaking of Apple, submit your EP to be put up on iTunes like the Jerry Leger & The Situations Album. top

the ep would never get on itunes because of the quality, what is comes down to is we are testing out recording now and at the end of the summer we will have something at our own website

and phil you'd be surprised how little of a shit i give about you hearing the music... knowing you would just bitch about the quality or the type of music... i've never heard you have any sort of interest in anything in this genre, not once have i heard something positive... so really if you hear it or not i don't really care

mat on the other hand if i had one i'd let him listen because he would give it a chance

i'm getting really tired of defending the actions and choices i've made with my band, especally in a blog i made which was suppose to not be about that ...and some where i actually wanted to hear people opinions

at the end of the day i don't give a fuck what so ever, when i have something to put out it will be out there, untill then i'm not going to respond to posts about the band or the split

now if you care to respond to the topic be my guest top
